2021 Areni

This red grape from antiquity exhibits both aromas and flavors of ripe red fruit, such as cherries and red plum.  When comparing it to noble grape varieties that we know and love, I say it is similar to Pinot Noir with more alcohol and with a spicy, peppery finish.  Or another way to describe it would be saying it is similar to Grenache with higher acidity and a peppery finish.  The use of Caucasian oak barrels (Caucasus Mountains north of Armenia) also adds a slight smokiness to the wine.
